The Reely Rocket Drone Quadrocopter is a very exceptional remote-controlled aircraft. The drone has a high rectangular shape and is somewhat reminiscent of a rocket. It can be controlled by smartphone and an app installed on it. Take-off and landing is at the touch of a button and it automatically maintains its altitude.

Furthermore it is foldable and measures 92x92x180 mm when folded. In total it weighs 170 grams and has the following dimensions when unfolded: Width: 300 mm, height: 180 mm, length: 300 mm.

Therefore it is also suitable for flight beginners. In the following lines we introduce the most important technical features.

Here you can watch our video review:

Technical features

What we find so great about the Reely Rocket quadrocopter is the Wifi video transmission, which is transmitted directly to the smartphone. So you can watch the video image live and thus fly the drone in FPV mode. End devices from Android 4.0 / iOS 7.1 and higher are supported.

Remote control

Unfortunately the app doesn’t work very well and often crashes, so I mostly just flew with the remote control without app control.

Optionally, the files (photos and videos) can be stored on an SD card. Here micro SD cards up to 64 Gbyte can be used. 128 Gbyte memory cards are unfortunately not supported.

The resolution of the video is 0.9 million pixels and the resolution of the video is 1280 x 720 pixels. At this resolution, a maximum of 25 frames per second is possible with which the camera can record video.

Really cool is the function to control the HD camera via the smartphone, i.e. to be able to pan. Unfortunately it does not have a real gimbal system, so the video recordings are not completely wobble-free.

A disadvantage is the short flight time in relation to the loading time. Loading takes 120 minutes and you can only fly for 5 minutes with the drone. However, it is possible to use several batteries. These can be purchased cheaply. Usually 1S LiPo with a charging capacity of 900 mAh are sold.

The 2.4 Ghz remote control has a maximum range of about 50 to 70 meters and the WLAN reaches up to 30 meters.

Here are some sample photos of the drone camera:

The colours are a bit milky, but one should not expect too much from a drone in this price range. In any case, the Reely Rocket survives almost every crash, both against a garage door and against trees and plants, as you have seen in the video.

Who is the Reely Rocket Drone suitable for?

Because of its extensive functions, such as Altitude-Mode and Headless-Mode, the Reely Rocket Drone is perfect for beginners.

Altitude mode means that the drone maintains its altitude fully automatically and the drone pilot does not have to consciously control the hovering flight. This of course ensures that the pilot has more freedom and can focus on creating videos and pictures.

The headless mode means that the quadrocopter can be controlled independently of the position of the drone head. So if you move the control stick forward, it doesn’t matter if the aircraft is standing with its head towards you in the air or sideways, it will fly away from you.

Scope of delivery

The quadrocopter is delivered RtF ready to fly. That means you don’t have to assemble the drone anymore, it is delivered ready to fly.

The Reely Rocket Drone comes with the following parts:

  • Quadrocopter
  • Remote control system
  • Flight battery
  • USB charging cable
  • Replacement propeller
  • Propeller protection
  • Screwdriver
  • Smartphone cradle
  • Manual on CD

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages:

  • The drone is foldable – can be easily transported everywhere
  • Has different flight and speed modes for beginners
  • Automatically maintains hovering flight – making it easier to control
  • Images from the HD camera are directly transferred to the smartphone – the Reely Rocket can be controlled and flown via the live FPV image

Cons:

  • Maximum transmission range is 50-70 meters, Wifi (live image) only 30 meters
  • The flight time per battery charge is unfortunately only 5 minutes
  • An empty flight battery takes up to 120 minutes to fully charge
  • There are no SD cards with 128 Gbyte usable – but 64 Gbyte micro SD cards, which are completely sufficient

Reely Rocket Conclusion on the beginner helicopter

Those who attach great importance to high quality photo and video recordings should maybe look for another quadrocopter. In our opinion, this model here is definitely not suitable for advanced pilots and professionals!

The price/performance ratio is good, the Reely Rocket is well suited for beginners.

It is virtually a foldable mini drone with all possible features that a quadrocopter has to offer in this area. However, we recommend that you buy several battery packs for the Reely Rocket to extend the flying fun as much as you like, as the flying time is only about 5 minutes per battery charge.

You can buy the Reely Rocket here on Amazon*.

The Reely company is quite well known in the model building sector. However, DJI drones or Parrot are better specialized in quadrocopters, so we have presented a few alternatives below.

The Reely Rocket Drone compared to other quadrocopters

Many of you will not be able to cope with the disadvantages of the Reely Rocket drone, so we have summarized some alternative drones in a short overview, which cost only slightly more. Apart from the Spark, which requires a multiple of the budget, but is still inexpensive.

Ryze Tech Tello

You can’t go wrong with the Ryze Tech Tello. If you are on a tight budget and still want to get the taste of a DJI drone, we recommend this mini quadrocopter.

It costs only 20-30 € more than the Reely Rocket, but has much better technical features. These include a range of up to 100 meters, many different stunts, flight modes, a software gimbal system and a high-quality camera with good image quality. Whereas the Reely Rocket only has a wifi range of 30 meters or 50-70 meters range of the remote control and produces much worse pictures & videos.

This is a mini drone, but it is still worth buying, because the Ryze Tech Tello is full of high-tech. You can’t go wrong with buying a DJI drone!

Hubsan X4 H501S FPV Brushless Drone

The Hubsan X4 H501S FPV Brushless Drone is a slightly larger quadrocopter for just under 200€ and has many features that are almost only available on models in much higher price ranges. Among them are GPS, 4 brushless motors, a Full-HD camera, Altitude Mode, Headless Mode, Follow Me Mode, Return To Home Mode and a cool design with LED lighting

In our test, this drone did very well in the price/performance ratio and the Hubsan is a popular model among beginners to make the entry into flying as inexpensive as possible.

DJI Spark

For the DJI Spark you have to budget a little more, but it passed our tests with almost full marks.

This is a high-tech mini drone with gesture control and a 4K camera. The sensor technology is very sophisticated and although the small quadrocopter weighs only 300 g, it lies very calm in the air.

Compared to the Reely Rocket it has a much smoother flight behaviour, many more flight modes and is much easier to control by beginners. In addition, a vision positioning system and an obstacle detection system is installed, which ensures that the Spark flies around obstacles intelligently without the intervention of the drone pilot.

For beginners this feature is a clear advantage to gain experience without crashes. In addition, the battery lasts much longer and the Spark can reach speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour.

You can read more about this drone in our DJI Spark test report.
