Fatshark Dominator V2

0

The successor of the bestseller Fatshark Dominator V1, is the Fatshark Dominator V2. This FPV goggle is again very well received in the FPV racing scene, because many great features, a high quality and reliability at an acceptable price, make the Dominator V2 especially attractive.

It is especially designed for FPV flying in outdoor areas. A visually attractive and stable haptics, as well as easy to use buttons on the top of the headset are proof that the manufacturer Fatshark has a good understanding of flying. To have effective fun with the FPV goggles, you need a multicopter, if you don’t have one yet, you can buy a drone here.

Advantages of the Fatshark Dominator V2

The Fatshark Dominator V2 has a SD card slot, in which you can insert SD memory cards of up to 32 Gbyte. The video data which is sent from the transmitter on the copter to the glasses can not only be watched live, but also recorded.

It is built so that it does not let sunlight through, so the pilot is not dazzled and can concentrate completely on flying. However, we advise you not to look directly into the sun. Otherwise holes could burn into the colour filter. If the goggles are damaged, you will notice white dots on the display as soon as they are in use.

A resolution of 600 x 480 pixels and a field of view (FOV) of 32 degrees ensure a pixel-free flying experience without major visual restrictions. For FPV flying these values are completely sufficient.

What we really like is the fact that the Fatshark Dominator V2 can be equipped with an additional headtracker module. A headtracker module records the head movements in the room via a position sensor on the FPV goggles and transmits them to the camera of the copter.

This allows the pilot to move his head during the flight and thus to look around in his surroundings apparently “out of the copter”. Here the field of view of the camera determines the limits, if it is permanently installed. Please note that flying with such a headtracker requires some practice.

In the FPV area usually analog inputs are preferred, exactly with that the Fatshark Dominator V2 can serve. In addition there are some analog cables included in the delivery.

The interpupillary distance is adjustable, thus ensuring a sharp perception of the overall image.

If you wear glasses, you can also use a visual acuity correction (optional lenses) to adjust the image sharpness.

Disadvantages of the Fatshark Dominator V2

Unfortunately the Fatshark Dominator V2 is not available as a complete set. But you can buy and use optional receiver modules with 2,4 or 5,8 Ghz for image transmission.

Fatshark offers such modules. For example the FatShark receiver module 5.8 Ghz and the FatShark or ImmersionRC transmitter, also with 5.8 Ghz.

Test conclusion

Compared to the previous model, the Fatshark Dominator V2, the video image now also appears larger and brighter, because the Dominator V2 has an additional backlight and a larger image.

The eye cups are made of soft rubber and ensure that no light penetrates.

In combination with additional headphones (optional), the blackout guarantees a full immersion into the flying experience without much distraction from outside.

The headband also provides a secure hold. As the glasses are not too heavy at 181 grams, they do not press on the nose even after long use and are ideal for headtracking, as the centre of gravity of the head is not shifted as it is with heavier glasses.

If you have a micro SD card, you can insert it into the SD slot of the video glasses and record the incoming signal. The recorded video then has 30 frames per second, i.e. 30 fps.

We think the Fatshark Dominator V2 is really worth its price. Fatshark is a dominating brand in FPV glasses, similar to the manufacturer DJI in the drone sector. So you get high quality and you can be sure that the glasses will work for a long time if you treat them well :).

The price is currently around 400 €. We do not recommend to buy the product abroad, because you will have to be prepared for long delivery times and problems with possible returns.

It’s safer to shop at Amazon or other reputable online shops and the return process is very simple and straightforward, in case you don’t like the glasses after all.
