A rather unusual and damn small mini drone, is the Goolsky MJX X-Series X902, which impresses with its compact, light and elegant design. It is really quite small, but has the typical functions of a toy drone and is especially suitable for beginners.

You can take it with you everywhere, because it is just 9.5 cm high, 9.5 cm wide and about 3 cm high. So it is not much bigger than a palm of your hand. In addition, the X902 quadrocopter from Goolsky weighs only 19 g.

Flight characteristics, battery life and other technical details

You can keep the small mini drone in the air for about 5-6 minutes per battery charge. To charge the flight battery takes about 60 minutes. This is not a problem, because you can easily change the battery and another flight battery costs only about 2-3€.

Typically these have a charge capacity of about 180 mAh at 3.7 Volt voltage. These are lipo batteries. A suitable USB charging cable is included in the delivery. Many buyers report that the flight time decreases significantly with the number of battery charges. Some notice this already after 15 charges. In our long-term test, we will take a closer look at this. In any case, we recommend you to buy several flight batteries to extend the flight time of the drone.

It has small headlights, which look like small aggressive eyes. The light system has the advantage that you can also fly at dusk or in dark rooms. In general the design looks very fancy. The propellers are pointing downwards, which is of course better in terms of safety and compared to other models the Goolsky is a little bit more outstanding.

The flight behaviour is as we would say “typical” for a mini drone. It is quite sensitive to control commands, therefore there are 2 different modes, one for beginners and one for advanced pilots. When starting, we recommend that you take care not to move the control stick forward too much, as the powerful brushless electric motors catapult the lightweight to the ceiling very quickly. The fun-factor is definitely given, but you need a little bit of practice to control the little drone very well.

If you leave all your fingers off the control unit, the little mini quadrocopter will automatically go into hover flight. The 6-axis gyroscope is responsible for this. This sensor unit constantly balances the small remote-controlled flying object, making the Goolsky MJX X-Series X902 a very beginner-friendly drone.

A cool feature is the stunt function. It ensures that the Goolsky performs a roll at the push of a button without you having to learn any special flying skills. If you flip the drone, it will then hover automatically.

Assets and drawbacks

We especially noticed the low price of the MJX X 902 RC drone. Surely you are wondering what the catch is, we thought so too. After all, the quadrocopters have to be produced somewhere and the companies that are involved want to make a profit. In our tests we also compared more expensive models from the field of mini drones. We took these values in order to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages once again better. The following is a small overview:

Advantages

  • Very small and compact
  • Particularly favourable price offer
  • Cool design with light package
  • Well suited for beginners to gain their first flying experience
  • A fall is no problem, because the little drone is very forgiving
  • Battery is replaceable
  • Spectacular stunt function

Disadvantages

  • Insufficient loading cycles
  • Short flight time (battery lasts about 5-6 minutes)
  • The mini drone does not have a camera to take photos or videos
  • Not suitable for professionals and advanced users

Conclusion on the MJX X-Series X902 mini drone

We can only recommend the drone model presented above if you really want to buy very cheap. There are some points of criticism that will bother you quite a bit at some point. For example, the relatively long loading times, the short flight time and the reduction of the loading capacity with increasing loading cycles. Furthermore, it is a lightweight. So you can only fly it when there is absolutely no wind or inside your home. If there is a strong gust of wind, the mini-drone will most likely drift or even crash.

Nevertheless, you get a lot for very little money and for a complete newcomer the MJX X-Series X902 mini drone is the perfect choice. But afterwards you will want to change to a bigger model quickly.

We can recommend this quadrocopter to beginners with a small budget. You can order it here on Amazon*.

What alternatives are there?

If you have been following our blog posts or our YouTube channel for a while, you will have noticed that we have already tested several mini drones and toy drones. Among others, the Parrot Mambo and the Parrot Airborne, which were completely convincing in the test.

After we took a closer look at the MJX X-Series X902 mini drone, we noticed some things negatively, which didn’t come to the fore as much in other quadrocopters of this size. The flight time of Parrot’s small drones is in practice about 2-3 minutes longer and the batteries are much more durable. They also have cameras mounted at the bottom, with which you can take cool pictures from a bird’s eye view.

For the Parrot Mambo and the Airborne Drone, you will have to dig a little deeper into your pockets. Both models cost about 70-100 € each.

In a similar price range, but of much higher quality, the Ryze Tello. The quadrocopter even has a cool camera and an enormously reliable flight performance, but is slightly larger than the MJX X-Series X902 drone. It also shines with a significantly higher range of about 100 meters in total. The battery lasts up to 12 minutes and this model is definitely a lot of fun!

If you are looking for a bigger and still affordable model for inexperienced drone pilots, you can take a closer look at this Hubsan drone. In our test it also convinced all along the line and showed that it is definitely worth its price.
