]The XS816HW from Visuo is a comparatively inexpensive drone that is intended to fill the gap between “toys” and hobby pilots. It shines above all with its generous scope of delivery and top workmanship.

Here you can watch our video review:

Battery performance and flight time

The quadrocopter managed an average flight time of 7-10 minutes in our tests, which is quite remarkable for a drone of this price segment.

Furthermore, a total of 3 rechargeable batteries are included in the scope of delivery and with a charging time of approx. 45 minutes, they are quickly ready for use again.

These are unexpectedly good values for the price.

Remote control and handling

The included remote control is simple and clearly laid out and fits well in the hand.

Thanks to the possibility of headless mode, the drone can also be easily controlled without live images.

With the included mobile phone holder you can also fix your smartphone on the remote control to follow the flight in real time.

However, two small minus points have to be added, 3 AA batteries are needed for the remote control, which can be quite expensive over time, as well as flying blind behind a house is very difficult, since the image transmission occasionally broke off as soon as objects were between the drone and the smartphone.

Camera performance: photo and video quality

The XS809HW is equipped with a camera that can not only be used for live image transmission, but can also record videos and photos.

These can be stored directly via SD card on the drone and transferred to the PC after the flight.

The camera films with a resolution of 720p, thus in HDReady quality and photographs with a resolution of 2MP. During filming and photographing, the rotor blades can become visible at the upper right and left edge (marked red in the picture).

This is not necessarily groundbreaking, but more than sufficient for this price segment.

Due to the 120° fisheye lens it is also very easy to capture the right pictures and to keep an overview of its flight envelope.

Design and material quality

The first impression when opening the package is a very good one. Visuo drives with her drone a design with a clear edge.

It is kept in black with golden inscription. The rotor arms are foldable, which makes transport extremely easy, as the drone fits into almost any bag. Folded, it is even a little smaller than the DJI Mavic Air.

The hinges engage cleanly and do not wobble. A conclusion about the low price of the drone can only be drawn from the haptics, the plastic of the body deforms relatively quickly under pressure and the whole drone is very light overall.

Nevertheless everything seems very stable and in our test everything stays exactly where it should be.

Despite the sometimes wobbly flight feeling the drone is well made, no protruding edges or screws, cleanly glued and well built all around. Also included are 4 spare rotor blades and rotor protectors.

Flight characteristics and functions

Thanks to functions such as Altitude Hold (hovering), headless mode, one-key return and one-key take-off, the drone is perfect for beginners.

Despite its low weight, the Copter stands well in the air thanks to the 6-axis stabilisation program.

But you shouldn’t expect miracles, especially in strong winds, 100g are quickly blown away.

In calm conditions the strengths of the small quadrocopter are clearly evident, it is very controllable and has a good speed.

It can be controlled very meticulously and finds its way through the one or other treetop or bridge without any problems.

Thanks to the headless function, the drone can also be controlled well without a smartphone.

In headless mode, the drone can practically always be steered as if the nose of the drone were the front in the direction of vision, which is a great advantage, especially during long flights.

With a range of up to 100m you can also capture wonderful landscape shots. The One Key Return function, where the drone automatically returns to the starting point at the push of a button, also works well, only a slight deviation, probably due to the lack of a GPS module, was noticed during the test.

The start at the push of a button works perfectly, but you should make sure that the ground is straight, otherwise the drone will stumble a bit.

Concluding Conclusion

With the Copter the classification between toy and drone is difficult. The price speaks clearly for toys, but after our tests we have clearly decided: It is a super drone for beginners, who are not yet so familiar with flying and do not want to sink 300 Euro or more in the next river because of possible flight errors.

It offers a perfect introduction to the world of the air and provides nice pictures. The quadrocopter is currently available at Banggood at very low prices*.

But to be honest, we don’t put the emphasis on the images with this drone. If you plan to shoot a National Geographic article, you should invest a little more and be able to fly very well.

In our tests we focused on the behaviour in the air and this is what convinced us.

Flying with the drone is simply fun and offers a great introduction for beginners to get used to the behavior and control of the copter.

P.S.: Video will follow, is currently still being edited 🙂
