Futuristic, cool and easy to fly, that’s what the manufacturer of the remote controlled Amewi 25163 drone advertises, which looks really quite interesting.
It is an aircraft with 4 propeller drive, so it is a quadrocopter. It combines modern technology with extraordinary design and offers a special FPV experience for a comparatively small budget.
What the little copter can do and if it is really worth its money, you will find out in this report.
Technical specifications
The model has a weight of 315 g, is quite powerful and therefore not recommended for children under 14 years.
In total, the transmitting power of the radio remote control reaches up to 100 meters. It can be operated intuitively and makes a pretty good impression. The dimensions are 515 mm x 524 mm with a height of about 86 mm. A rather large quadrocopter, but still easy to control.
From the design it reminds you of something futuristic, something that we have never seen before in the size and shape on the drone market.
Camera
The small quadrocopter has an integrated FPV camera, with which you can take beautiful outdoor shots. The picture is very balanced and makes a modern impression. On the small FPV screen you can follow the picture in real time.
At a resolution of 1280 x 720, the FPV camera achieves up to 30 frames per second, which is outstanding in this price class.
Battery
A LiPo battery with a charge capacity of 1000 mAh and 7.4 V is installed. Unfortunately at this weight this is only sufficient for a maximum flight time of about 6 minutes, after which the flight battery must be fully charged again, which takes about 90 minutes.
On the other hand, the remote control has a LiPo 450 mAh battery with 3.7 V, which lasts much longer and does not need to be recharged as often.
For charging, corresponding charging cables and charging adapters are included in the scope of delivery.
Flight behaviour
All in all, flying seems quite cumbersome compared to other quadrocopter models, which are much more agile. This is mainly due to the size of the drone. For beginners this is a clear advantage, because the control commands are not executed as abruptly and strongly as is normally the case.
The built-in 6-axis gyroscope provides a very stable flight attitude. The slightest misalignment in the flight path is corrected immediately. Thus the Amewi 25163 lies very well in the air and is very easy to operate, because it keeps itself in hover. Beginners will learn to fly this quadrocopter quite quickly.
In addition, there is the possibility to perform various 3D stunts at the push of a button. The drone performs a somersault or a roll and then stabilizes itself completely via the gyro system.
Remote control and FPV
The remote control of the Amewi 25163 drone also has a pretty interesting and cool design. It reminds a bit of a Gameboy from old childhood days.
It has a stable transmission frequency of 2.4 Ghz with a maximum range of 100 metres, as previously mentioned.
A 4.5 inch display is built into the remote control, so it has a diagonal of 11.43 cm. This screen size is pretty good to make the FPV flight experience more realistic. The razor-sharp live image is displayed in real time and you can control the quadrocopter from the ego perspective without having to look at it.
Important notes
However, observe the laws applicable in Germany. Actually, drones are only allowed to fly here on sight. You should be able to get there with the maximum range of 100 meters.
When flying in FPV mode, a second person must always be present. You should also try to get a drone license plate, because this is required by law in Germany for takeoff weights over 250 g and this drone unfortunately weighs a little more. You just have to put your name and address on the license plate.
Are there models of comparable quality for this price?
The Amewi 25163 drone costs only 99.99 (as of September 2018) on Amazon. Similarly expensive models are available from Parrot, for example the Parrot Mambo or Airbone Night. DJI has also released a drone that costs only about 100 €, the Ryze Tech Tello. In our opinion, you get much better quality and a better camera.
However, these are mini drones and therefore cannot be compared with the Amewi 2516.
Advantages and disadvantages
If you look at the technical details, the size of this drone and its price, you get the impression that you are looking at a copter that is absolutely top of the line in terms of price. But is the price/performance ratio really that good? After all, there are some negative customer reports in addition to the positive reviews.

Conclusion
All in all, this drone is quite okay for the price, but not an absolute price/performance hit either, because the remote-controlled aircraft has many disadvantages.
The drone has to be calibrated before the first start, but after switching on the remote control the right lever has to be moved down to the right and held until the LED lights on the copter start to glow. This calibration is absolutely necessary so that the quadrocopter knows what a plane is. Only then can it keep the drone stable in the air.
This could be a problem for beginners who don’t know how to calibrate the quadrocopter, because it’s not in the manual.
This also explains some negative reviews. But if you know that, the Amewi 25163 flies very stable and gives a lot of pleasure!
