For beginners who don’t invest that much money in their first drone but still want to have a big model to practice with, the s-idee 01608 quadrocopter is worth considering.
This is a FPV drone for about 130€ with a considerable size. With the integrated camera you can record breathtaking pictures and videos. At the same time the pictures are directly transferred to the screen on the transmitter.
Technical data
Despite its low price, the drone contains all kinds of technology, and in this report we will go into the most important technical details.
Size, design and weight
The quadrocopter measures 48 cm (width) x 48 cm (length) x 12 cm (height) and makes a powerful impression compared to other drones.
Housing and most of the other elements are made of plastic, but it is still of high quality and resistant.
So-called bumpers are attached to the rotors, which protect the rotor blades from other objects.
The camera is mounted below the drone’s belly. The landing skids are located to the right and left of the camera and are somewhat reminiscent of the frame of the DJI Phantom.
Since the weight is about 1.6 kg, you need to attach a drone license plate, a drone driver’s license is not required.
Camera, memory and FPV live image transmission
Here a HD camera was installed which delivers up to 30 frames per second at a resolution of 720P. The photo and video data are then stored on a MicroSD card, which you can later remove and view on your PC, laptop or other device with the help of a card reader.
The FPV signal is transmitted directly to the transmitter, the transmission frequency is 5.8 Ghz. The latency is okay, we could not measure it exactly, but the delay which occurs during transmission is limited.
Battery, range and flight time
The drone is supplied with a battery LiPo 7.4V with 1000 mAh. The flight battery provides a flight time of up to 10 minutes. Charging takes about 60 minutes.
The transmitter range is about 100 meters, after that it is over. However, there are drone laws in Germany which say that a quadrocopter can only be flown within visual range anyway.
Flight Stabilization
A 6-axis gyro system is used to stabilize the flight attitude. This means the drone stabilizes itself. When you release the control stick, the system ensures that the quadrocopter is in hover flight fully automatically and remains stable on the spot.
This also applies to the somersaults and rolls which you can perform at the push of a button. After performing the stunts, the drone automatically goes into hovering flight.

Conclusion
Of course this model cannot be compared with the professional drones or more expensive models we usually test, but if you want to save money and just gain experience with a large drone, you should have a look at the offer.
Especially beginners benefit, because the drone can not only be adjusted between “normal” and “expert”, but can also be trimmed at the remote control.
