In today’s report, we present the SJRC S20W UAV. In our opinion, it is very well suited to beginners, because it is not only inexpensive, but also has very stable flight characteristics.

In addition to the battery, the delivery includes a remote control with various controls and a mobile phone holder.

In addition, the quadrocopter has a GPS function, which helps the model to maintain a stable flight attitude.

Beginners can also take advantage of 3 different speed modes to slowly adapt to a faster flying behaviour and more agile UAV reactions.

What else you can expect from this model, you can find out here in this test report.

Technical data and facts

You can connect the SJRC S20W to your smartphone via Wifi. The video image is then transmitted in real time to your device and you can drive and control the model via the FPV.

The quadrocopter has different modes. Among them, there is also the headless mode, which is particularly useful if you lose your orientation.

Each drone has a front and a rear part. When flying the model, it can sometimes be difficult to know what the model looks like to you. That’s why the propellers are always shown in pairs, in two different colours. For example, white at the front and black at the back. This is not the case with the SJRC S20W.

So if you’ve lost your orientation, use the headless mode, because here the helicopter orientates itself at the position of the remote control. It will respond to your control commands regardless of its orientation. This means that if you pull the joystick towards you, it will fly in your direction, even if it is standing on its side! This feature is especially interesting for beginners.

The SJRC S20W is balanced by a gyroscope, which operates on 6 axes. In addition, the model also orientates itself by means of the GPS signal and adjusts its orientation accordingly.

Four motors are used as drive motors, which correspond to the type 1020.

Design

The design of the SJRC S20W is very similar to that of the DJI phantom drone. However, it doesn’t have a gimbal system like this model, so the video recordings seem a bit blurry.

The cam is located between the two legs of the quadrocopter and its axis can be adjusted manually. The manufacturer indicates here an adjustment radius of about 75 degrees.

The model is available in store in the colours “black” and “white”. Otherwise, the UAV makes an unspectacular impression and is very well balanced and functionally finished compared to the competition.

The weight is 185 grams and the dimensions are 27 cm x 27 cm x 12 cm.

All about the camera

In the store, you can choose between two different camera systems. The UAV can be delivered with a 2.0 MP camera with 720P or a 5.0 MP camera with 1080P.

The video resolution is therefore 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080 pixels, depending on the camera chosen.

Battery, flight time and range

A 1000 mAh rechargeable battery is included in the scope of delivery, which operates at a voltage of 3.7 volts. This gives you a maximum flying time of about 8 minutes. Charging time is then about 60 minutes.

The range must also be taken into account. Here, the control distance is 500 meters, while the image transmission is only 400 meters.

There is also a “Follow Me” mode, where the drone can follow you up to 30 meters away.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages:

  • Numerous flight modes available (3 speed levels, headless, “follow me” mode)
  • Ideal for beginners
  • Compact size and functional design
  • Top of the range
  • Very good price/performance ratio

Against:

  • No 4K Camera
  • Unfortunately, the dope doesn’t have a gimbal..

Conclusion

The SJRC’s S20W UAV is particularly intended for people who have not yet gained much experience in the field of flight. During our tests, we have already examined many models and found that certain features and modes are mandatory to facilitate entry for beginners. These include a gyroscope that operates on 6 axes and the headless mode available on the SJRC S20W UAV.

Although the camera is not as good as the other quad models, it has a wide angle of about 120 degrees and can be adjusted in its 75 degree axis. We would have liked to have a gimbal system, but that would probably have raised the price enormously.

Here in the shop you can buy the model at a reasonable price!
