-Flight time: 7-8 min.

-Battery: 2000mAh

-Charging time: approx. 180 min.

-Operating frequency: 2.4GHz

-Wifi range: 30m

-Camera: 720 x 480 pixel video

Battery performance and flight time

With a flight time of approx. 8 minutes and a loading time of 180 minutes, the quadrocopter is on average in this price segment. When testing other drones in this price segment, we were able to achieve similar values.

It is practical that the battery can be charged via a normal USB cable, so the drone remains ready for use even when travelling by car.

Remote control and handling

The remote control of the Spyrit Max is very clearly arranged and kept very simple with comparatively few buttons.

A smartphone can be attached to the top of the remote control to follow its flight via live image using the free app.

To operate the remote control 4 AA batteries are required. In the lower third there is a small display showing the current gearing of the drone, which is very practical especially for beginners to better understand the control and flight characteristics of a quadrocopter.

Camera of the drone

The built-in camera is detachable and films with a resolution of 720 x 480 pixels, which makes beautiful landscape shots difficult, but it is enough to follow the flight on the smartphone.

To be able to take some pictures the Spyrit Max offers the possibility to save videos on the included mini-SD card. A gimbal to stabilize the recordings

Design and workmanship

The design reminds a bit of DJI’s Phantom series and is kept simple and with clear curves, without many squiggles and edges. The colour is white with red accents.

On the bottom we find the spindle-shaped and compactly built micro camera and 4 stable landing feet. The included rotor protection is easy to install and makes a stable impression.

In the overall picture the drone looks good and is very robustly built. The strong fuselage is made of durable but light ABS plastic, as are the landing feet and rotor protection.

Even a small crash from a height of about 2m the drone survived our test without major scratches. In addition, green and red LED’s show the flight direction of the drone during flight.

Flight behaviour of the drone in the air

To be honest, the first take-off turns out to be relatively difficult for us, as the change to a drone without any gearing sensors, altitude hold and sophisticated stabilisation programs was very unusual for our team.

But this is exactly what we like about the Copter. It reacts unaltered to any control commands and lets you do everything with it.

Especially without a camera, the drone is very agile to move despite its rather heavy weight.

With a little practice you can easily do some simple tricks, or just use the trick button on the remote control and the drone will perform a roll or loop.

But also in normal flight the Copter can be flown very well, due to its high dead weight it stands, once tuned, very stable in the air, even in moderate wind.

Thanks to the headless mode, which allows you to control the drone practically always in the direction of vision, it is also possible to control the drone without a camera at some distance and not to lose the overview.

Summarized view

We would recommend the drone to novice pilots. It is ideal for learning to fly and to find fun in flying.

Due to its stable construction it can survive the odd small crash and its agile behaviour in the air is a certain demand, which makes it very interesting to learn about it. The drone is currently available for sale at Amazon.

The entry-level drone is only of limited use for serious filming, for which it is simply not enough in this price segment.

But just when the flying works well and the possibility exists to mount the included camera and capture first pictures, we find this a great introduction to the drones scene.

If you are looking for a cheap drone with a camera that can record Full-HD, then take a closer look at the Hubsan drone.

If the drone should have a gimbal and great flight modes, the DJI Spark can also be interesting.

A 4K drone at a bargain price you can shoot with the UPAir 4k drone.
