The entry-level drone attracts with a low price under one hundred euros and has made it its mission to take great pictures
.

Furthermore the WLAN signal should be stable and work without problems.

We have taken a closer look at the mini drone and will show you in our extensive practical test whether it is really worth buying.

Material quality and workmanship

At first sight the drone makes a very well processed impression and the material feels valuable.

The flight protectors, also known as bumpers, help the drone to cope with one or two crashes.

With a weight of only 181g the drone is very light and does not need to be marked with a license plate. Only from 250g this obligation must be fulfilled.

Despite its low weight the drone is relatively large and measures 30×30 cm when fully assembled and is about 10 cm high.

The drone can also be flown in FPV mode than with virtual reality glasses like the Fatshark Predator V2.

However, this requires some flying experience, otherwise the drone can quickly land in the next tree.

Furthermore, in FPV mode you must never fly alone, but there must always be another person on site to check the environment for obstacles.

LED navigation lights are attached to the drone, so that the drone can be recognized sufficiently even in less light.

Drone camera: photo and video quality

The photos are good in my opinion, but you should not expect hollywood-quality pictures from a quadrocopter in this price segment.

The camera can produce videos in HD, i.e. with a resolution of 720p.

This quality is definitely enough to take pictures of the most beautiful places on holiday and then put the photo in the photo folder as a souvenir.

Please note that the pictures must be taken in JPG format and the lighting conditions must be good.

If it is rather dark, the picture starts to rush quickly. There is also no setting in the app to correct the ISO value or exposure.

Photo with the U818A Quadrocopter

The filming is really good for a beginner drone and can inspire at the next family birthday party.

However, demanding pilots or filmers and photographers should look for another model such as the DJI Spark or the UPair 4k drone.

These unmanned flying objects offer significantly better technology, both in terms of flight parameters such as flight time and photo and video quality.

SD cards up to a size of 32GB are supported.

Flight behaviour and operation

The UDI U818A stands surprisingly relaxed in the air and reacts directly to commands given to the drone via remote control.

Drohne kurz vor dem Start

Taking off and landing is particularly easy, as this can be done simply by pressing a button.

The UDI climbs to a height of almost 1.5m and waits for further flight instructions.

We have crashed with the drone very often and so far we can rightly say that this FPV drone is very stable (similar to the Syma drone) and even survives a fall from several meters height without damage.

The U8181A is not able to withstand stronger gusts of wind, the weight and other sensors that ensure a stable flight attitude are simply missing.

Nevertheless, the built-in barometer does a good job and keeps the drone in one place in the air.

Drohne im Praxisflugtest

In our test we were able to achieve ranges of up to 30m in width and 30m in height, which is definitely enough to shoot spectacular photos and videos.

The drone flies in the 2.4G range. It is not possible to switch to 5.8G, as is the case with Mavic Air.

Included in delivery are 2 batteries, so that an effective flight time of almost 12 minutes is achieved.

The charging of the batteries can be done via USB charger, both for the drone battery and for the remote control.

Aufladen des Drohnenakkus

It takes about 75 minutes until a battery is fully charged again.

Flight modes of the quadrocopter

The drone offers a whole range of different flight modes which I will explain briefly.

The Gravity Introduction Mode allows you to fly the drone with the help of your mobile phone.

If we tilt the mobile phone forwards in this case, the drone flies forward as well.

If we tilt it to the side or tilt it in our direction, the drone reacts accordingly.

This control system works well, but you should not use it in confined spaces.

In headless mode the drone always flies exactly in the direction you are aiming at via the remote control.

It does not matter in which direction the head of the drone is pointing.

When the head of the drone points to the left and gives full throttle forward, the drone flies forward, but with its snout facing the left side.

When the drone’s battery is running low, it starts beeping to signal that the landing procedure must be initiated soon.

Conclusion on the mini quadrocopter

I think that the U818A has a really great price-performance ratio and is a great gift, especially for beginners and inexperienced pilots.

The copter survives the first crashes in any case and serves perfectly as an entry into the world of drones.

Thumbs up for this very cheap flying object and real bargain on the drone market!

At the moment you can buy the drone very cheap at Amazon.
