The Yuneec Typhoon CGO3-4K UHD Actioncam with stabilizing gimbal is a rather extraordinary but very high-quality action camera.
Thanks to the 5.8 GHz WiFi interface, the images can be followed in real time on the smartphone. The camera allows different angle orientations by means of tilt control.
The Yuneec Typhoon CGO3-4K UHD Actioncam is also available as a combi-set with the Typhoon Q500 4K, which we have already tested extensively.

Technical data and facts
You have the possibility to choose only the gimbal without camera in the shop in case you already own an actioncam like the GoPro 3. This can then be easily inserted into the gimbal mount. Alternatively it is also worth buying the complete set including camera from Yuneec.
The CMOS photo sensor is very high quality, has 4K video resolution and 12.4 megapixels. Which of course has its price. The Steadygrip for GoPro costs less than a fifth of the complete Actoincam with CG03 camera. In our opinion, the price/performance ratio of SteadyGrip is unbeatable, because the gimbal system is very reliable and has a high quality.
The model is delivered in a high quality hard plastic case. The cam sits firmly and securely in a foam padding.
Design and appearance
The SteadyGrip is ideal for holding the gimbal system in position with one hand. On top there is a holder for your Smartphone. This serves as a screen for the gimbal and can be connected to the CG03 camera if you have bought one. Alternatively, you will need to pair your GoPro with your mobile device.
In the front the gimbal is again provided with a rubber suspension. This absorbs small impacts to protect the technology of the camera better. The rest is done by the gimbal system itself.
On the bottom side at the foot of the handle is the on/off switch. Above a button to make different settings on the gimbal. A small LED light is also installed. This lights up continuously green or flashes.
It may be that it glows red, which indicates a disturbance. In this case we recommend that you switch the gimbal on again. It is problematic if the fault is still present. In this case, you should contact customer service or have the gimbal replaced.
Otherwise, the Yuneec Typhoon CGO3-4K UHD Actioncam is really damn easy to use.
Although the design as a whole is very unusual and has a certain mass, after a while you’ll get used to it.
Image sensor, resolution and memory
If you buy the stabilizing gimbal with the CG03 gimbal camera, you will enjoy Ultra High Definition (UHD), which is 4 times higher video resolution than HD, therefore it is called 4K. The videos are recorded at 25 frames per second and deliver enormous quality and a particularly dense image structure.
You also have the possibility to set a lower resolution with a higher frame rate. For example, you can choose 1080p at 120 frames per second. In this mode you can also record quite realistic slow motion videos.

After our tests, the conclusion regarding the shooting quality was very positive and we can definitely recommend the 4K action camera from Yuneec.
If you buy the gimbal with the CGO3 action camera, you can use a 16GB Micro SD card. There all your shots will be stored. Later you can transfer them to your computer, edit them or share them on social networks.
The battery lasts for about 90 minutes when you film and has a size of about 1400 mAh.
For which applications is the camera suitable?
The Yuneec Typhoon CGO3-4K UHD Actioncam is perfect for day trips and holidays. However, it is not suitable for underwater use and should not be used in heavy rain as it is not protected against water penetration.
Especially for wobble-free floating shots in uneven terrain the cam does a super good job.

- An external microphone cannot be connected
- Camera cannot be screwed onto a tripod
Conclusion
After our tests we can say that the action camera does exactly what it is supposed to do. It produces clean, floating pictures and is simply unbeatable in its price. Many other buyers are also enthusiastic about this gimbal model and use the cam to create perfect, balanced video recordings.
Unfortunately the gimbal is a bit big and you need some time to get used to it. But the handling is very easy and you will find your way around very fast. There are also other inconveniences, for example there is no manual in German included in the package, but you can download it from the internet if you don’t get along with the handling.
The possibility to connect the Yuneec Typhoon CGO3-4K UHD Actioncam to your Smartphone is absolutely great. But for this you need the appropriate app.
All in all, there are some disadvantages, but they turn out to be rather circumstantial and are not real problems. On the other hand, the price is extremely low and the performance is quite high. Other models are much more expensive, maybe a bit lighter but not everyone can afford an expensive gimbal system.
