In today’s report we would like to introduce the EKEN H9R sports action camera. As the price is quite reasonable and the model has some interesting information, the cam is very well suited for beginners.
Especially the extensive accessories, the intuitive three-button operation and the included housing, which is waterproof up to a depth of 30 meters, caught our attention.
It also comes with a remote control, but this is only suitable for starting a shot and taking pictures.
The set also includes 2 rechargeable batteries and with the charger you can even charge both at the same time. One camera battery has 1050 mAh. The performance of a battery is rather in the middle range. But since 2 of them are included in the set, this circumstance raises the price/performance ratio of the model.
Technical data and facts
Although the EKEN H9R sports action camera is in the lower price range, the video quality is still impressive.
Almost all modern action cameras now have a 4K resolution. Nevertheless the models can be distinguished and their value can often be determined by the maximum frame rate.
With 24 frames per second at 3840 x 2160 pixels (4K), the EKEN H9R sports action camera is, so to speak, more in the mid-range. There are also cameras with 30 or 60 frames per second, and we have also seen models that only have 15 fps, where the price naturally plays a decisive role.
In the menu you also have the possibility to set other resolution formats with different frame rates.
Camera
Here a 12 MP photo sensor was installed. Unfortunately one must say that there are already better sensors with a higher resolution in this price category. Usually, an action camera is rarely used to take photos, though.
You can change the different resolution values for photo and video recordings.
For photos, you can set these gradation values: 10 MP, 8 MP, 5 MP and 3 MP. Videos can be set at 4K at 25 fps, 2.7K at 30 fps, 1080P at 60 fps or 30 fps and 720P at 120 fps.
The light sensitivity of the camera is an advantage. Even with fast light changes or sudden shadows, the camera changes its sensitivity and adjusts the sensor perfectly.
The camera has a 170 degree wide angle lens and is therefore perfectly suited to capture as much of the surroundings as possible.
Design
This model has all the typical specifications, controls and structures of many other classic action cameras, but the color is a feature that makes the EKEN H9R sports action camera stand out from the crowd. The yellow color tone comes across pretty well in our opinion. In other shops, the model is also available in other colours, for example black.
On the back is the display, which measures a size in the diagonal of about 2 inches.
The remote control can be used in the form of a bracelet and has a trigger for photos (red) and videos (grey), as well as 2 status LEDs.

Battery and runtime
As already mentioned, there are 2 batteries included in the scope of delivery. Both have 1050 mAh each and last for about 45 minutes when filming with 4K. In case you only film with 1080P and 30 fps, the runtime will last twice as long, i.e. 90 minutes per battery charge.
Advantages and disadvantages of the camera
Advantages:

- The camera has not 16 MP but only 12 MP

We like the EKEN H9R quite a bit, because it is not only very affordable, but also has a lot to offer in return. The software is satisfying, the handling is very easy and you can use the action camera in many ways!
