Once again, we were looking for a great action camera that offers great performance at an affordable price.
Year after year, technical advances are becoming more and more advanced and prices are becoming more and more affordable. For example, we came across the WiMiUS Action Cam with 20 megapixels and a 170-degree wide-angle lens, which you can now buy for under 70 euros.
In the following report we will introduce this action camera to you in more detail and go into the most important facts.
Technical Features
Especially the scope of delivery of the WiMiUS at the low price convinced us, but more about that later, the inner values of the camera are of course not to be sneezed at. The photo sensor is quite high quality and you can take photos with a resolution of up to 20 megapixels.
This is an enormous achievement for this price and compared to other similarly priced models like the APEMEN Action Cam, which has only 12 megapixels, you can clearly see the qualitative difference in the photo shots!
Resolution values
You can take photos in different resolution values. You can choose from the menu 20MP, 16MP, 14MP, 12MP, 10MP, 8MP, 5MP. With lower photo resolution you can save data memory, with higher resolution the photo performance is much better and you get a nicer, clearer picture with more details and depth of field.
Regarding the video resolution, you can choose between the following values:
- 4k at 24fps
- 2.5k at 30fps
- 1080p at 60fps
- 1080p at 30fps
- 720p at 120fps
Being able to record videos with 4k at a frame rate of up to 24 frames per second is pretty good for this price, which indicates a good chipset, even though there are already models with better frequency values at this resolution.
Design and quality of workmanship
On the back of the camera there is a 2 inch HD display on which all shots can be displayed. Alternatively, you can connect the ActionCam to a mobile device such as your smartphone or tablet and receive the images in real time. Thanks to this function it is also suitable as a great model sports camera.
The processed material does not make a cheap impression as it may sometimes be the case with other models. It appears very modern and noble. Although the plastic case looks a bit cheaper, it is still waterproof to a depth of 30 meters and is therefore perfect for swimmers, snorkelers and divers.
Battery, mileage and charging time
As already mentioned at the beginning, the scope of delivery is very praiseworthy for this price. For example, the set includes 2 batteries, which you can exchange as you like.
They each have a maximum charge capacity of 1000 mAh. If you film at 1080P resolution, a fully charged battery will last about 80 minutes. You have to take care that the runtime per charge cycle decreases a little bit with higher resolution. However, if a battery is empty, you can simply swap it for a full one and continue filming.
To charge a completely empty battery takes about 2 hours until it is full again.
Shooting modes
In terms of price, we wouldn’t have expected to see so many shooting modes, but the action camera can do quite a bit. For example, you can create photo burst shots, set a self-timer, and create time-lapse videos, loop shots and slow-motion videos.
Time-lapse videos can be set in the following intervals: 1 second, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds and 60 seconds.
In slow motion you can only record with a resolution of 720P at a frame rate of 120 fps or VGA resolution at 240 fps.
In order to be able to take high-quality photos, the camera also has an integrated image stabilizer.
Menu navigation
The menu does not seem too overloaded, you can quickly find what you are looking for. We found the extensive language selection very positive. You can set the menu in the following languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese and even Russian.
Memory
Videos are generally recorded in H.264 compression format. The WiMiUS L2 supports memory cards up to 64 Gbytes. The manufacturer recommends formatting them once before use.
Unfortunately, we did not find a way to save the pictures in RAW format so that they can be better edited later, which is especially valuable for professionals. However, one should not expect this with this low price and the otherwise very good price-performance ratio.

Advantages and disadvantages
Let’s get to the most important advantages and disadvantages of this action camera. A lot of negative things we did not notice at all. There are quite a lot of “free” accessories and the price is simply top for this performance!
Advantages:

- Many different photo shooting modes
- It is possible to create slow- and fast motion movies, as well as loop recordings
- The menu navigation is easy to understand and does not seem too cluttered

- 2 batteries with 1000 mAh each are included in the scope of delivery and can be exchanged
- High battery life up to 80 minutes
- Thanks to the 170-degree wide-angle lens, you can take good pictures even in twilight and in poor lighting conditions
- Wireless WiFi connection and use as FPV sports camera possible
- A waterproof housing up to 30 meters is included in the delivery
Cons:
- Sometimes the battery jams a little during the insertion
Conclusion
Of course WiMiUS is not comparable to a GoPro camera. If you expect GoPro quality you have to pay GoPro prices. But not everyone has the necessary budget and especially beginners don’t dare to try the expensive devices and want to try something cheaper, for this reason the WiMiUS ActionCam is perfect, because it offers a very good price/performance ratio.
What also speaks for this camera is the built-in Sony IMX078 image sensor in combination with a Novatek chipset and a sophisticated image stabilization. So you get quality for a ridiculously low price.
